NOTORIOUS WOMAN CRIMINAL. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 23. At the Police Court to-day Margaret Beatrice Brodie, aged 35, was charged with obtaining goods to the value of £66 13/9 by false pretences, and attempting to obtain other goods to the value of £lO 9/8, and failing to account to Maria Bennet for £3 12/-. Accused, in a statement, said she was a certificated nurse and arrived at Wellington from Australia in March last. She came to Auckland in September and took charge of Warkworth Hospital on October 4. Accused had a prison record in Australia. Mr J. W. Poynton, S.M., said that accused was a morphine maniac and a notorious criminal, and should be sent back to Australia. He recorded convictions on the three charges and remanded accused for one week for sentence.
