TROUBLE IN SPAIN

A PLOT REVEALED. DIRECTED AGAINST THE DIRECTORY. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association). LONDON, November 8. (Received November 10, 1.30 a.m.). That there has been trouble in Spain appears from telegrams from Perpignan, announcing the arrest of 20 Spaniards, who confessed that they were engaged in a plot against the Directory. A telegram from Barcelona describes the pursuit of suspects by the police and the prolonged fight with revolvers in a boulevard at San Antonio, resulting in the killing of one policeman and the wounding of another. It also describes the arrest of seven suspects, all carrying bombs and revolvers. The Spanish Embassy in London states that an armed band of 30 entered the province of Navarra from France and were forced to re-cross the frontier, leaving one dead and one wounded and five prisoners. An attempt to seize the barracks at Barcelona was also defeated, the assailants being arrested. Great excitement continues in consequence of reports that efforts are being made to smuggle arms at many points along the frontier. Numerous arrests have been made at various posts. MADRID, November 9. A communique details a collision between the police and invaders at Pamplona, near the French frontier, in which two police and five invaders were killed and 27 of the latter arrested. The communique states that the affair was apparently part of a revolutionary movement initiated by Anarchists across the French frontier in conjunction with Spanish syndicalist Extremists. PARIS, November 9. Newspapers report recent activity of Spaniards between Paris and the French frontier. Several parties left in motor cars for the frontier, which they crossed on foot.
