CITY OF SYDNEY
ALLEGATIONS OF CORRUPTION. SITTINGS OF THE COMMISSION CONTINUED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright). (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association). SYDNEY, November 6. Mr Brenden, Comptroller of Assets and the Lord Mayor were examined by the Cropley Commission, and detailed negotiations and Council discussions regarding Cropley’s lease and subsequent developments arising out of Cropley’s allegations. The evidence threw little fresh light on the position. It indicated that they considered that the agreement with Cropley as endorsed by the Council was a good deal for both the ratepayers and Cropley. Both would reap good profits from the property, which was previously a non-pay-ing proposition so far as the Council was concerned. The Cabinet, as the result of certain information in possession of the AttorneyGeneral, has decided to extend the scope of the Cropley Commission. The Premier, while admitting that fresh charges have been made, declined to disclose their nature.
