FESTIVAL CONCLUDED. SECOND DEMONSTRATION CONCERT. (Our Special Reporter). The Gore Competitions Society’s 9th festival came to an end on Thursday evening, when the second Demonstration Concert was held, and the Princess Theatre was again packed. Mr J. Harper presided, and expressed pleasure at the large audience. The Executive of the Society had been more than delighted with the results this year. The programme presented was as follows : —Physical Drill, East Gore School girls; piano solo, Master Ira Charles; recitation, Miss Betty Day; piano solo, Miss Marjorie Bowmast; recitation, Master Ivor Ferguson; piano solo, Miss Elma Newman; recitation, Miss Zita Traynor; vocal duet, Miss E. Duncan and Mr A. Richardson; violin solo, Master M. Ferguson; song, Miss Trixie Pryde; dance, Master Willie Martin; recitation, Miss Phyllis Edwards; piano solo, Miss Winifred Gresham; song, Mr H. H. Grant; piano duet, Misses M. Martin and P. Rose; dance, Miss Mary Muir; recitation, Miss Jessie Boyle; piano solo, Mr Austin Golding; Half-hour Entertainment, “The Mountebanks’’ (Invercargill) ; piano duet, Misses K. Blaikie and E. VITAL STATISTICS OCTOBER RETURNS FOR INVERCARGILL. • « Slight increases in the vital statistics for October as compared with the corresponding month of last year are disclosed in the returns made available yesterday. The greatest increase was in the number of births reported, while in the case of deaths and marriages there were only small increases. In comparing the figures for the ten months of the current year with those for the same period of 1923, the position is that six births less were recorded, while in respect to the number of deaths, the figures show a big decrease, being 223 this year, as against 274 last year. During the same jieriod the number of marriages increased by 33.
