A Royal love drama is revealed by the suicide of the Countess Szechhenyi, a Hungarian aristocrat. She was passionately in love with the Archduke Eugene, aged 61, an uncle of the late Emperor. He became engaged in January to a wealthy Swiss widow, and thereupon sent to the Pope his resignation as Chevalier of the Order of Saint John, which enjoins celibacy. Meanwhile the Archduke w’as on friendly terms with the Countess, but after a final interview, prior to the Archduke’s marriage, she returned to her hotel and shot herself in the head with a revolver. The Archduke is greatly distressed.
