ATLANTIC SALMON
EGGS FROM TE ANAU STOCKING THE WANGANUI Some 60,000 Atlantic salmon eggs were unpacked on Friday of last week at the Kakahi hatchery, near Taumaranui, by Mr L. F. Ayson, Government Inspector of Fisheris. The eggs, which were collected from tributaries of Lake Te Anau, were in good condition, not more than 40 being dead. This is the first consignment sent this year for the Wanganui River, but other consignments will be sent up later. Improvements are being made to the hatchery, and water is now being brought from a large spring to supplement and improve the present supply. In an interview, Mr Ayson said that weather conditions and the flooded .state of the rivers in the South had been unfavourable for collecting eggs.
