A NARROW ESCAPE
DRAY OVERTURNED IN RIVER. (Per United Press Association.) MASTERTON, July 31. Through following the strong current while fording the Wanganui river, James Fouhy, a carting contractor of Masterton, had a narrow escape from death. He was carting metal from the river and attempted to ford to the town side through the usual outlet. Three powerful horses were attached to the dray, but the velocity of the current tossed the dray completely over. Fouhy was thrown under and had it not been for the tail board being broken, his escape would have been impossible, as the dray was securely anchored. The horses were drowned.
