THE PERSIAN MURDER
GOVERNMENT EXPRESSES HORROR. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) TEHERAN, July 30. The American Legation has not received the Persian Government’s reply to the American Government’s Note regarding the murder of the Consul, Mr Imbrie, but newspapers publish a letter from the Foreign Minister to the American Minister, in which he says that the Government and nation are horrified, and that every endeavour is being made to find the culprits, who will be severely punished. The Government willingly consents to transfer the remains of Mr Imbrie across Persia for embarkation on an American warship, and to defray the expenses in that connection, and pay proper compensation to the widow. It is considering guarantees for the security of American citizens. WASHINGTON, July 30. (Received July 31, 9.15 p.m.) The American Minister, Mr Kornfeldt, at Teheran has advised the State Department that the Persian Government has given an assurance for the safety of United States citizens. Teheran, which is under martial law, is perfectly tranquil. The least disturbance in the provinces will cause the proclamation of martial law there.
