SAD FATALITY

YOUNG MAN’S DEATH FELL INTO VAT OF BOILING WATER SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES. Mr Geo. Whittingham, junr., of Gore, yesterday morning succumbed to the injuries he received as the result of a unfortunate accident at his father’s brewery en Tuesday morning. He was precipitated

into a vat of water which had attained a temperature of 190 degrees. Assistance was at hand, and Mr Whittingham was quickly dragged from danger by his father, who was working downstairs at the time and heard his son cry out. He rushed up the staircase, gave his son his hand, pulled him out, and immediately stripped his clothing off. Medical aid was quickly on the scene, and the sufferer had his scalds attended to, Mr Whittingham being badly injured from the waist down. Mr Whittingham was taken to his home nearby, where all things humanly possible were done to alleviate his suffering and hasten his recovery, but notwithstanding the greatest parental and medical care, he passed away at an early hour this morning. Deceased was 20 years of age, and had always lived and was educated at Gore. An inquest will be held this morning, and the funeral takes place in the afternoon.
