WINTON. GENERAL NOTES. (From our Correspondent.) The weather has been anything but pleasant of late, hurricane gales having been blowing for the past two days. However, as the grass is going back rain may be expected which will be a welcome respite from the prevalent “cyclones.” The Radio Theatre is indeed a boon to the town, the benefit being all the more felt owing to the fact that Winton has been without such a hall for more than three years. Several balls have already been held in the theatre and more are coming off. It has been decided to go on with the Woollen Mills, and these should make Winton go ahead, besides being a source of employment for many workers. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Winton Competitions Society was held on Monday evening last, the chair being occupied by Mr D. Larnach. The secretary reported that the Bristol Piano Company had agreed to give the Society the use of a piano on the same terms as last year Mr E. A. Phillips, Winton, wrote accepting the position of jpdge of the photography section, while Mr F. Brookesmith, Invercargill, agreed to judge the drawings. It was decided that mezzo soprano voices be eligible to compete in the soprano test, section 8. KENNINGTON. A SUCCESSFUL DANCE. (From our Correspondent.) The Lodge No. 29, 1.0.0.
