BIG PROPOSALS
AUCKLAND’S ROADS. NEW BRIDGE SUGGESTED. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 11. A comprehensive roading scheme placed before the City Council by the City Engineer, Mr Bush, outlines the permanent formation of 58 miles of secondary streets at a total cost of £460,780, and concreting an additional 7$ miles of chief traffic streets at £210,740. The engineer also submitted estimates for bridging Arch Hill Gully, which in its effect would be similar to the Grafton Bridge. Three schemes were submitted, the costs being £24,200, £32,000 and £35,200, the length of the structure varying from 580 to 356 feet, and the height from 30 to 51 feet. Half the cost, it is suggested, would be paid by the Mount Albert Borough. The reports, which were transmitted by the Works Committee for consideration, were referred to a Committee of the whole Council.
