CAWTHRON TRUST
QUESTION OF TRUSTEESHIP. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 11. In the Legislative Council to-day, in moving the second reading of the Thomas Cawthron Trust Bill, The Leader of the Council (Sir Francis Bell) said that in the view of the Government the proposals contained in the measure gave proper effect to the wishes of the testator. Tracing the history of the Trust, Sir Francis said that the Government decided some months ago that legislation was necessary to give public representation on the Board. It was then submitted that it was undesirable that there should be only one permanent trustee and the AttorneyGeneral decided that it was advisable to provide for continuity of office by adding to the number of trustees public officiate designated by the testator. Hon. W. H. Mclntyre objected to the Bill as wrong in principle. Other speakers were Hons. G. J. Garland, J Barr and A. S. Malcolm, who generally agreed that it was desirable to eliminate the political element in the appointments to the Board. The Bill was read a second time and referred to a committee consisting of Hons. J. Barr, J. P. Campbell, W. J. Geddia, C. H. Izard, J. MacGregor, V. H. Reed, W. Stewart, Sir Francis Bell, Sir Wm, HallJonfll frnd Sir James Sinclair
