LABOUR ATTACKED

MR POTTER’S DENUNCIATION, (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 10. Speaking in the House of Representatives this afternoon, Mr V. H. Potter (Roskill) defended the Reform Party against the Labour imputations of disloyalty, because the name of Mr Howard Elliott was associated with them. There was no more loyal man than Mr Elliott but no one could say that of the Labour Party. In support of this statement he quoted from The Maoriland Worker which stated that if Ireland obtained her freedom it would mean the breaking up of the Empire, which would be a good thing for the world and an inspiration to Labour. Proceeding, Mr Potter quoted from the speeches of Labour members to show that they shared these views. The Labour Party had done nothing to get soldiers for the Empire in the hour of peril, but in the House members of that party were falling over themselves to give concessions to soldiers in order to get their votes.
