DOCTOR’S NEW THEORY (Sun Special). LONDON, June 19. Widespread attention has been directed here and elsetvhere to the contentions of Colonel Barnardo, a leading member of the Indian medical service, regarding the future progress of mankind. “By reason,of the chemical substance in the blood, destined for the activation of a certain group of cells in the vegetative system,” says Colonel Barnardo, “the average duration of life would be enormously prolonged through discoveries of the potentialities of the thyroid gland operation. The future of the race, and the future of human nature will depend upon the use to which we put our knowledge of this matter as time goes on. Man, who is now a prey to chance, would become the captain and arbiter of his fate and destiny.” The eminence of Colonel Barnardo, who is a member of a well-known charitable family, is causing the closest attention to be directed to his theory.
