BRITAIN AND RUSSIA

PROGRESS OF NEGOTIATIONS. BOLSHEVIKS AFRAID OF LABOUR. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, July 8. In the House of Commons, in reply to complaints at the Government not fulfilling its promise to keep the House informed of Anglo-Russian negotiations, Mr Arthur Ponsonby (Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs) said he hoped to submit the outcome of the conference before the summer recess, but it was difficult to deal with the matter at the present critical stage. He hoped the old treaties with Russia, which were being revised, would shortly be ready for signature. Referring to the Soviet Press attack, Mr Ponsonby declared that the Bolsheviks were more afraid of the Labour Party, as the bulwark against Communism, than they were afraid of the Conservatives.
