LAND SALE
DEE STREET PROPERTY OFFERED. PASSED IN AT £13,000. A considerable amount of interest was taken in the sale of city and suburban properties, which was conducted by Messrs W. Todd and Company, Ltd., yesterday morning on behalf of the Trustees in the estate of the late Mr Richard Blackham, who was one of the oldest residents of Invercargill. There was a large attendance of business men, but, with few exceptions, the bidding was not spirited, and only one site was sold at auction. This was a quarter-acre section with frontages to North and Bay Roads, the site of Roope’s brewery, and it was purchased for £650 by Mr D. Blackham, of Timaru. Chief interest centred in the sale of the Dee street property, including what are known as the White Swan Buildings, with a frontage of 77ft 6 inches, and a depth of 165 ft. The first bid was £12,000, and two subsequent bids of £5OO were received, but prospective purchasers were not prepared to go beyond that figure, and the property was passed in. There was practically no demand for suburban properties, and all these lots wore passed in at auction.
