ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY’S AWARDS. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 7. At a meeting of the Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand to-night, awards for bravery were made as follows: Silver Medal: Alan Patrick Kinross White, Omaranui, Napier, aged 19 years. On March 11, 1924. at 7 p.m., White rescued a farm labourer who had taken refuge in a tree in the river bed, during the flood. Other attempts to effect rescue by means of a raft had failed, but White achieved the object by swimming his horse through the swift waters and debris, displaying nene and good judgment. Bronze Medal: Ronald T. 8.~ Eade, draper’s assistant, Feilding, aged 17 years. On January' 22, 1924, Eade rescued a married woman from drowning on the Rangitika River by jumping from a bridge into the deep water. The woman was unconscious when removed from the river, out with the assistance of another, Eade employed methods of resuscitation and after 20 minutes’ work the patient recovered. Bronze Medal: Douglas McLean Whitson, engineer, Dunedin. 39 years of age. On February 24 at 6.30 p.m., at Brighton, Otago, Whitsan went into the surf to rescue a man who had been carried out from the beach by the strong backwash. Whitson had to swim fifty yards and after a struggle lasting 15 minutes, he brought the man to the shore. Framed Certificates were awarded the following: David Henry Speedy, Tinui, Masterton, rescue from drowning; Thomas Douglas Watts, Otorohanga, rescue of a man from a bull; Norman McKay, Balclutha, attempted rescue from drowning; Ka Ujuki Hujohai Tsukigawa, master mariner, Balclutha, attempted rescue from drowning. Certificate: Mrs Allen Gertrude Galbraith, Dunedin, rescue from drowning.
