BOAT CAPSIZES

FOUR PEOPLE DROWNED. BELFAST, May 28. Four excursionists were drowned by the capsizing of a pleasure boat on Ixnigh Neagh, Ulster, in April. A party had left Belfast by charabanc in the morning for Toornebridge. In the afternoon they embarked for a trip to Church Island. When near the Antrim shore one of the party leaned over the side, and the boat capsized. They all succeeded in clutching the side of the boat, but it again turned over.

Some of the party got a second hold, but one by one they were forced to let go. When a rescue boat arrived, the boatman was the only person still holding on. The rescuers were at work in a field when they heard shouts, and, rushing down to the shore launched a small boat. They picked up a woman supported on two locked oars of the overturned boat.

The boatman could not be taken into the craft, which was already overcrowded, but he clung to the stern, and was towed ashore. Another boat which put out from the shore succeeded in rescuing another occupant.
