The annual meeting of the nxsnbers of the Te Rangi Bowling Club last- evening unanimously elected Mr J. Peterao© as its president for the ensuing season. It te understood, wires the Wellington correspondent of the Southland Tinies, that the Minister of Lands (Hon. D. H. Guthrie) is on the point of resigning hte portfolio, and that it will be assumed by Mr A. D. McLeod.

The New Zealand delegates to the PanPacific Food Conference are the Hon. G. M. Thomson, M.L.C., and Hon. Mark Cohen, M.L.C. The latter, wires the Wellington correspondent of the Southland Times, te visiting Honolulu for the benefit of hte health. Hon. Mr Thomson leaves by the Niagara on July 9, and the Conference will be held between July 31 and August 14. Subjects for discussion will be international law, fisheries, entomology, plant pathology, plant and animal quarantine, crop improvement and development, animal industry, climatology, forestry, topography of land and sea, and the transport and distribution of food products.

At last night’s annual meeting of the Te Rangi Bowling Club opjxjrtunity wa* taken to make a presentation to Mr A. 8. Froggatt on hte retirement from the position of secretary after a number of years’ service in that capacity. Appreciative references to the excellent services rendered by the retiring officer were expressed on behalf of the members present by Messrs Peterson and Pryde, the latter handing a travelling rug to Mr Froggatt as a token of the esteem in which he te held and a mark of appreciation of hte efforts on behalf of the club. The recipient suitably acknowledged the gift and stated that it had given him a great deal of pleasure to be associated for so lengthy a period with such a fine body of sportsmen.
