LIGHTS IN THE ESTUARY.

To the Editor. Sir,—-With reference to the recent mbhap to s.B. Oreti, I would like to enquire why the “promised” light has not been fixed up on the southerly end of the jetty. Also let me say that it would not cost the Council much to run a cable to the end of the walls and put a light on the red stick there. 1 am informed that this is the only estuary that has not a light and I think this a shame, as masters of vessels have enough to do without running on mud banks when it could be avoided by erecting a couple of lights at the points above mentioned. Hoping the Council can see its way to see into this matter. I am, etc., F. BALL, JNR.
