IN SOUTH AFRICA

THE NEW CABINET. ELECTORAL REVISION NEEDED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Reuter’s Telegrams.) CAPETOWN, June 22. The rural voting figures show a remarkable disparity between the votes and the actual representation. The South African Party with a minority of 29 polled half the total votes. The Press urges that this makes a strong case for electoral revision. It is understood General Smuts will resign on Monday. The Hertzog Cabinet numbers eleven. A new portfolio of Labour will be created if Labour is content to enter the Cabinet. The Standerton election is fixed for July 16. The Nationalists have not yet announced a candidate to oppose General Smuts there.

Mr Roos, Chairman of the Transvaal Nationalists, has invited Dutch members of the South African Party to join the Nationalists on the ground that the former are now nothing but the old Unionist Party.
