TEMPERANCE

ST. PETER’S LEGION. The last two meetings of St. Peter’s Methodist Loyal Temperance have shown a growing interest of children and parents in this movement. On the 6th inst., a “Patriotic” evening was arranged in honour of the King’s Birthday. Captain Myers, President of the R.S.A,. addressed the children on "Patriotism,” showing those present the true meaning of his subject. Some thrilling incidents of the Great War were used by Captain Myers to illustrate his inspiring address, which was listened to with keen interest by all present. Master Lawrence Alton, the youthful President of the L.T.L., thanked the speaker for his splendid address and expressed the wish that it would not be the last time Captain Myers would give a talk to the members. Patriotic songs and recitations and flag drill all helped to make the evening a success. On the 20th inst., Mr Mclndoe, Government analyst, addressed the members on “Alcohol: A Foe.” In a very able manner —with a chart—he showed clearly that alcohol was a poison, not a food; how its use lessened mental, moral and physical power; caused the heart to overwork, caused disease and shortened human life. His able address was listened to by about 70 children and adults.

Mrs Pasley, Superintended of LT.K, expressed the appreciation of all present for Mr Mclndoe’s kindness in coming and for his educational address.

Mrs Tuson had a bright little programme arranged, and a very happy evening was spent. A number of boys and girls signed the pledge and were added to the L.TJL. roll.
