SNEAK THIEF GAOLED

A DUNEDIN CASE. <Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, June 20. John Healey was charged on remand at the Police Court to-day with the theft on June 6 last of a motor car tyre and rim valued at £6, the property of George Alfred Lamb, and was further charged with the theft on the following day of a motor car tyre, rim and cover of a total value of £5, the property of Fairbairn and Header son, Ltd. The Magistrate, Mr Bartholomew, said that accused had stated that he was drunk at the time the thefts took place, and that it was a matter of impulse. It was, however, a deliberate case of sneak thieving. The man was going around, taking tyres off cars standing in the street. Accused would be sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on the first charge, and at the end of that period he would be detained for reformative treatment for a period of twelve months. A conviction was entered in respect to the second information.
