THE NEW PARTY

WHO WILL THE LEADER BE? MEMBER FOR TIMARU MENTIONED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 21. With reference to a recent statement published in the Southland News regarding the leader of the political forces Mr Wilford says that the Southland News, which has just published an article against himself and Sir Joseph Ward, opened by demolishing the Prime Minister previous to the article against himself, metaphorically wiped him off the political map and then, having disposed of him, started to try to settle Mr Wilford as leader in order to clean the decks for a new party. “The man they propose to lead the new party in New Zealand, which is at present not in existence and has no being, is Mr Frank Rolleston, Reform member for Timaru,” said Mr Wilford. Mr Wilford says his party is solid and as happy a family as ever worked in political life. All are accounted for and are staunch and true. MR ROLLESTON’S DENIAL. NO TRUTH IN THE STATEMENT. TIMARU, June 22. Mr Rolleston says there is absolutely no truth in the assertion that he was to lead the new party, and the Press message was the first he heard of the matter.
