A message from Pekin announce® the death at Nanking of Mr Frank Carpenter, the well known American traveller and author. Mr F. R. At the Provincial Conference of the Farmers’ Union held in Invercargill yesterday, Mr A. Mackenzie, of Otahuti, was unanimously elected to the position of President for the ensuing term. The Conference also recorded its appreciation of the services rendered by Mr Peter Arnott, the retiring President, during his term of office. Following the retirement of Mr A. T. Bothamley. 1.8.0., Mr B. E. S. Stocker, M.A., at present Second Clerk Assistant of the Legislative Council, will become Clerk Assistant, and Mr C. M. Bothamley, son of Mr A. T. Bothamley, will be promoted [rom Permanent Committee Clerk to Second Clerk Assistant. Mr F. K. Lowe, son of Mr A. F. Lowe C.M.G., Clerk of Parliaments and Clerk’of the Ijegislative Council, will become Permanent Committee Clerk.
