VOLCANO ROARS
’QUAKES IN PHILIPPINES. VILLAGES IN DANGER. (Sun Special) MANILA, March 23. Belated reports from Camaguin, in the Babuyanes Archipelago, state that the volcano is believed to have been in violent eruption at the beginning of the month. The Camaguin natives report that loud roarings were heard, and that a smoky glare was seen above the horizon in the direction of the island for several days following. A succession of severe earthquakes was felt in Camaguin.— The fate of the small fishermen’s settlements is unknown, but it is feared that they have been destroyed. The Babuyanes are a fertile group in the Philippines, between Luzon and the Batanes islands. Camaguin, Calayan, Babuyon Claro, Fuga, and Dalupiri are the chief islands. On Babuyon Claro there is an active volcano.
