THREE-PARTY LINE RATES., (Special to the TimesU WELLINGTON, February 15. Three-party telephone rates are prescribed in an Order-in-Council issued this evening. When the regulations in regard to the new telephone rates were gaserted in Se|> tember last it was thought inadvisable to provide for a rate for three-party lines, because the automatic apparatus does not lend itself to three-party connections, in that provision is only made in the machinery part of it for one, two and four-party connections. If the three-party connections were permitted, a certain portion of the apparatus at the exchange would be idle. Therefore, in view of the demand for the three-party lines, it was found desirable to fix a rate which would be uniform with the other rates, except that a small charge is made to cover the interest on the capital cost of the extra apparatus which is not in use. The rates for the four main centres win be.

Extra mileage rate outside the base rate area is equivalent to 10/- per furlong for an individual line.
