The heavy rains which took place at the week-end have had a wonderful effect on the pastures in the King Country, and the season promises to be a record one. One Te Kuiti farmer said that the recent two days’ rain meant tens of thousands of pounds to the dairy farmer. Many of the farms that he knew could carry almost double the stock which was on them, so prolific was the feed. So thorough had been the soaking that even on the hilltops grass was coming ,away splendidly. Providence had indeed been kind to them this season, and many a hard-working young farmer, who had been hard put to it all the winter, not knowing which way to look to try to make both ends meet, would be able to turn the corner and see daylight through all his troubles, and look forward to a much less strenuous and worrying time.
