The Rome correspondent of the London Sunday Times says a new commercial treaty signed at Madrid between Italy and Spain reduces customs’ duties on mutual exports and imports and establishes most favoured nation relations. Special regulations are being made for the importation into Italy of wine and coal from Spain. The London Observer says: “It is mainly due to Mr S. M. Bruce’s energetic advocacy we owe the Government proposals for preferential treatment of some important dominion products. If carried out they are certain to show that tariff adjustment can be made to do valuable services to oversea development even though wheat and meat are excluded.” The Medical Congress concluded its sittings at Melbourne on Saturday.
