HER LADYSHIP
BROCADED TISSUES. NAMES OF THE NEW FRENCH MATERIALS. The New French brocaded tissues, which will probably be “all the rage” in autumn, are as remarkable for their names as for their beauty (states a London correspondent). Rodier, the famous Parisian designer., has created such titles for his materials as “Stryvello de Bamako” (a woollen fabric brocaded in high relief), “Kasha de Ban-nap-hao” (which is a fine cloth embroidered richly in an Angora shawl pattern) ; “Tchinacrepe rosace” (brilliant floral silk) ; “Gtryella de Baniaka” (fine serge brocaded with striking designs in colour) ; “Drapella arabesque” (a very thin woollen fabric sewn with Arabian patterns) ; while especial favourites are his "Marokellaine” (an uneven woollen stuff with a fascinating rough surface), and his “Agnella bigarre,” which is clipped lambs’ wool damascened with huge flowers in vivid colouring. This last material is being used largely to line all the long autumn coats abroad. Rodier gained the inspiration for these new materials (and probably their names) from the great French Colonial Exhibition held recently in France, where priceless fabrics and Oriental ornaments were on view from the different French colonies in Indo-China, Algeria and Morocco. We are grateful to learn that these materials may also be called—merely—“ Tissues de Rodier.”
