VESTEY’S PURCHASE
CONTROL BY PRODUCERS ATTACKED. (Per United Press Association.) • AUCKLAND, November 14. The matter of the acquisition of the Poverty Bay Meat Works by Vesteys, Ltd., was discussed by the Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. A motion by Mr Dusfield stated that, as there was some doubt whether the Meat Board or the Government was responsible for allowing the Poverty Bay Meat Works to be acquired by Vesteys, Ltd., the Minister 'of Agriculture be requested to define the position. The motion added that the executive considered that a grave departure had been made from the policy enunciated by the Government at the time of the establishment of the Meat Board; and control of meat by the producers had been seriously attacked. This motion was carried, an amendment —that the matter be deferred—being defeated.
