DAIRY CONTROL BOARD
ELECTION OF MEMBERS DAIRY FARMERS’ UNION ATTITUDE RECOMMENDATION TO MEMBERS. (Per United Press Association.) TE AWAMUTU, November 16. A conference of the Dairy Farmers’ Union to-day, at which delegates were present from Wairarapa, Manawatu, Waikatoand Thames Valley, unanimously passed a resolve by way of recommendation to the Dominion executive of the Union that the Union should not nominate a ticket for the Dairy Control Board election but should await the closing of nominations when recommendations could be made to members. At a subsequent meeting of the executive, it was decided accordingly. Members of the executive will communicate their views by telegraph with the president and the result will be handed to the Press immediately for the information of members. FARMERS’ UNION NOMINEES. THE TICKET SUPPORTED. At yesterday’s meeting of the Southland executive of the Farmers’ Union, the chairman of the Dairy Committee (Mr H. E. Bacon) stated that unfortunately there was just a little feeling creeping in with regard to the nomination of the Southland member to the Dairy Control Board. Recently a member of the union, who was also engaged in mercantile pursuits, had said to him, “I see that the dairy people are falling out over the nomination of a candidate.” The Dairy Committee had considered the matter very fully that morning and it had been decided to move the following resolution: “That the candidature of Mr Fisher is supported by this executive of the Farmers’ Union.” He understood that there was to be a meeting of farmers tomorrow, and if the chairman could go forward with the support of that meeting, the executive’s decision would have some weight behind it. Mr Martin stated that the executive should give its support to the Farmers’ Union South Island ticket in its entirety. Mr Bacon said that the exclusion of the other two nominees from the resolution had been due to an oversight. It was then decided to support the Farmers’ Unions’ nominees, Messrs Fisher, Thacker and Waite. The chairman said that he hoped that those who were nominated to the Board would go very slowly for a while and not go any further than they could see. It would be better for them to do very little for a time rather than to make the mistake of trying to do too much.
