CHINESE DISASTER
TYPHOON AND TIDAL WAVES. GREAT LOSS OF LIFE. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Reuter’s Telegrams.) PEKIN, August 20. The reports from Macao state that during the typhoon the Netherlands harbour dredger capsized. Only two of the crew were saved. The harbour works were considerably damaged. The Portuguese armed steam launch Almirante Hugo foundered. One man out of the crew of fifteen was saved. A number of Chinese launches and junks were either sunk or are missing. Some of the passengers were picked up. It is feared that a considerable number are missing. (Reuter’s Telegrams.) SHANGHAI, August 20. Reports state that the tidal waves which swept the North-west Korean coast last week resulted in 346 deaths. Over 1000 people are missing. Widespread damage was done to property.
