ANNUAL MEETING The seventh annual meeting of the Southland War Funds Association was held on Wednesday, those present being Messrs H. • Royds (president), D. Cuthbertson, J. Gili kinson, T. McCarrol, J. McDougall, D. McDonald, H. McKenzie and C. Bennett. In moving the adoption of the annual ! report and statement of accounts, Mr Royds said he wished to say that during 1 the year the returned soldiers had done I everything to help the Association and had j endeavoured to pay back advances. The .Association had not pursued a policy of ; making indiscriminate grants and consei quently their finances were in a good con- • dition. The report was adopted. Mr Royds was re-elected president and Mr McDougall was re-elected vice-president, j The existing general committee was re-ap- . pointed. A communication was received from Mr i L. Griffi'Ek a Lumsden resident, nominati ing Mr T. MvCarrol as the Lumsden repreI tentative on the .Association. It was de- : cided to inform Mr Griffiths that he had jno power to nominate a member. A branch i of the Association would have to be formed |in Lumsden before a representative could j be appointed. , Mr J. Gilkinson was re-elected chairman lof the executive committee. j An emergency committee was elected, • comprising Messrs Royds, Cuthbertson, Gil- , kinson and McDougall. The resignation was received of Mr M. Thompson, previously a member of the emergency and executive committees. Several members made eulogistic references to Mr Thompson’s work on the Association and said it was a matter for regret that j they were losing such an active member. Mr McDougall was also appointed trustee to the .Association. A quarterly balance sheet was presented showing investments to the amount of £45.270. Outstanding advances come to £3,796, making a total of £49.066. The receipts for the last quarter were £2BO, of which the chief item is refunds, £212. Expenditure for the quarter totals £593, of which the chief items are relief, £298, and advances. £193. The excess of expenditure over receipts amounts to £313. Cash in han amounts to £l5lB.
