DRUMMOND. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A very interested audience assembled in the Public Hall, Drummond, on Wednesday evening, May 8, to hear from Commissioner Hoggard the story of Korea. Mr R. McDonald, chairman, in introducing the speaker, briefly referred to the extent of the activities of the Salvation Army throughout the world, and the good work that had been accomplished wherever they became established. The Commissioner for an hour and a-half, relating in an interesting and attractive manner many of the peculiar habits and customs of the Koreans. For example, the practice of “hats on and shoes off” at a meeting hall. The Commissioner was assisted by Colonel Bray, Major Haines, and Majcr Bladin, who delighted the audience with his musical numbers. At the conclusion of the lecture a vote of thanks to the lecturer was responded to very heartily. GORE. (From our own Correspondent). The handsome Memorial Gates recently erected at the Gore High School Hostel were unveiled on Wednesday by the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister of Labour. The gates are the gift of the ex-Pupils’ Association, in memory of those ex-scholars of the school who feil in the Great War, and whose names are inscribed on marble on the gates. There was a good attendance of the public and suitable speeches were made by the following gentlemen:—His Worship the Mayor (Mr D. L. Poppelwell), Mr J. Hunter, M.A. (Rector of the school). Mr P. Stewart (on behalf of the R.S.A.), and Mr S. B. Dunn (for the ex-Pupils Association). Mr E. C. Smith, chairman of the Board’of Governors, presided.
