MR BOWMAR SAID
SOUTHLAND TIMES ATTACKED ACCUSATIONS AGAINST BOARD'S SOLICITOR There has been placed before the editcr of the Southland Times the following statement, dated May 1, 1923: In the course of Mr Bowmar’s address in Lumsden on Power Board matters on Monday last he made the following statement: — The hostility of the Southland Times to Mr Hinchey and myself is explained by the fact that- Mr William Macalister, who is the Power Board solicitor, is also managing director of the Southland Times, and since Mr Hinchey has been chairman of the Power Board Mr Macalister has not had so much legal work to do. This statement is signed by Mr S. E. Griffiths, who was chairman of the meeting, and he attaches to the letter the signatures of the following gentlemen who were in the audience and certify to the accuracy of the report:— GEO. JOHNSON. J.P., Storekeeper. A. McALISTER, News Agent. A. HEATH, Farmer. H. A. HAZLETT, Engineer. Other statements credited to Mr Bowmar at the Lumsden meeting were contained in this letter, but they have not been quoted because it is understood that they are to be he subject of other action.
