ANSWER TO A CORRESPONDENT. “INQUIRER” —Sir Harry Lauder (he had not then been knighted) appeared in Invercargill on August 26 and 27, 1914.
A Wanganui message states that the Council’s £lOO,OOO loan for the water extension proposal, which on the preliminary count on the night of the municipal election was declared carried by 26 votes, turns out on the official re-count to have been lost by 57 votes. A large number of votes, tentatively rejected as informal, were (accepted on the official scrutiny as valid.
