£5OO STOLEN. ■(Per United Press Association,. MASTERTON, May 1. At the S.M. Court to-day Ralph Henry Percy Cook, accountant in the Borough gas office pleaded guilty to the theft of £5OO, the property of the Borough Council. He was committed for sentence to Wellington. Cook, in a statement to the police, said that, pressed by his creditors, he took money from the cash to help him out. He began gambling on racehorses and took more money intending to pay it back, but got further into the mire.
