SEQUAH

FIRST LECTURE. A large crowd assembled in Wood’s Garage last night to hear the initial lecture of Sequah, who claims to be able to effect remarkable cures in cases of rheumatism, neuralgia, athrifis, lumbago, neuritis, etc He also says he is able to extract teeth painlessly without the aid of anaesthetics. Sequah explains that he is no wonderworker or miracle man but relies for his cures on “Sequah’s Prairie Flower,” and “Sequah’s Oil.” After a preliminary selection by the Second Battalion Band, Sequah, who is a versatile speaker, spoke and held his audience from start to finish while he related some of his marvellous experiences during his world tour. He said he had been to the war and had treated many soldiers without charging them a penny. Some unique testimonials had been paid to his powers as a healer. Sequah then introduced to those present, Mr J. Brown, who been a resident of Invercargill for the last twelve months and has suffered from rheumatism for six years, compelling him to move with the assistance of two sticks. Sequah treated Mr Brown with his patent oil and then asked him to move without artificial aid. Mr Brown then walked through the crowd, limping lightly, but otherwise apparently relieved of his disability. Sequah then publicly presented Mr Brown with two bottles of his cure and made Mr Brown promise to appear at his fiftal lecture. Sequah also explained that he did not profess to be able to effect cures in all cases, but he would be willing to interview intending patients between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.. He would sell his cures at the purely nominal fee of 3s per bottle.
