The Government has established a psychiatrical clinic, the first of its kind, for the purpose of providing medical skill for persons suffering early symptoms of mental, functional and nervous diseases. It Ls also hoped to educate the medical profession to the essential features of mental diseases and to bridge the gap existing between psychiatry and general medicine. Mr Bavin has returned from a visit to Victoria and Tasmania, where he conferred with both Attorney-Generals on the question of Commonwealth industrial powers. The four State Governments have agreed that, public servants should be excluded from the Arbitration Court jurisdiction. The latter ‘should bo limited to certain industries considered of a Federal character and the Court should be composed of Federal and State Judges, who should hear appeals from State Courts where inter-State competition is involved. Amalgamated Wireless has invited tenders for a complete high power duplex station designed for direct commercial communication with England 24 hours daily. Mr J. B. Cramsie, Chairman of the Australian Meat Council, complains that while freights for other cargoes have been reduced by the Conference lines meat freights have not been reduced. He fears Australia’s export meat trade will suffer as a consequence and that the Argentine will gain markets which will not be regained.
