(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) ; (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association).
SYDNEY, February 20. (Received February 20, 7.30 p.m.)
In connection with the cabled announcement that Captain Cook’s original record of the discovery of Australia, would shortly be auctioned in London, Mr Scott-Fell cabled to the editor of the London Times to secure an option at the lowest price. The editor replied that private offers could not be entertained. Mr Scott-Fell, through the press, is now urging that the Commonwealth and State Governments, aided by private contributions, should make a strenuous effort to secure the record. He himself is contributing £2OO.
