AN AMBITIOUS PROJECT

Out of the activities of the Southland League and its organiser Mr J. E. Winsloe has grown one of the most ambitious publicity enterprises this country has seen. Mr Winsloe has collected a large quantity of films illustrating life in the Dominion and he proposes to use these in conjunction with lectures to business and society people in the United States, with a visit to the Empire Exhibition in London to follow. His idea is to interest in the affairs of New Zealand the people who have money to spend and who can be induced to come to the Dominion. The mission is to embrace at least two years and if it works out according to Mr Winsloe’s plans it will mean that these southern islands will be made familiar to the wealthier people of the United States in a manner which hitherto has not been attempted. It is pleasing to notice that in this tour, which the Government very wisely is assisting where it can, Southland will receive special attention. The south is to have a lecture to itself and we can rely on Mr Winsloe doing justice to the claims of this part of the country. Thus although the primary object of the mission is to advertise the whole Dominion, Southland will receive the largest individual share of attention. For this we can thank the Southland League and Mr Winsloe, because all along the League’s executive officer has Icept in the forefront the vital need for an advertising campaign overseas on behalf of Southland to make good the deficiencies of the Government publicity. Mr Winsloe will start with the good wishes of the Southland people who will rejoice to hear that his efforts have been crowned with the. success his energetic prosecution of the mission deserves. It seems to us that New Zealand in general and Southland it particular stand to reap real benefits from this enterprise.
