ISLAND FRUIT
AUCKLAND RING DENIED. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 4. Auckland fruit merchants deny the Hon. J. A. Hanan’s allegation in the House that the Auckland fruit ring! controlled the distribution of Cook Idandrfruit. Mr Hanan’s statement is described as incorrect, and as far as was known there was no ring in the wholesale houses in New Zealand in connection with the distribution of Island oranges and bananas. With^reference to the higher prices for Island fruit in the South, one merchant said the transport arrangements preventer! fruit being sold in the South at rates similar to those in Auckland and Wellington. There was a great- risk of fruit not arriving in good condition in the South.
