BAND CONTEST
AFTERNOON AND EVENING FUNCTION
The Band Contest in Invercargill is being revived, and the competition will be held on the Show Grounds on the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, November 8. There will be six Bands and eight Pipe Bands competing, and the Quickstep contests will be held in the afternoon, while the competitions for brass■ quartettes and cornet solos will place in the evening. A most enthusiastic meeting of the Band Contest Committee has been held, and was presided over by Mr J. L. McG. Watson. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs R. A. Anderson, A. B. Moffett, C. S. Longuet and A. James. The date of chc contest was then definitely fixed for November 8, and it was reported that the Show Grounds had been secured for the afternoon and evening of that day. Good entries were reported for the special competitions, and the committee anticipates the revival to be conspicuously successful. It was arranged that should the weather not be suitable the contests in the evening would be held in the Drill Hall.
Nothing is being left undone to secure the success of the function, and already the secretary has been requested to arrange accommodation for 120 visiting bandsmen.
