TROUBLE IN PORTUGAL
GREAT FOOD STRIKE. GOVERNMENT PREPARES FOR EMERGENCIES. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and New Zealand Cable Assn). LONDON, August 9. The Daily Mail states that a serious situation has arisen at Lisbon in consequence of the general strike against an increase in the price of bread. Practically all work has stopped :.!id disorders are feared. The banks and public buildings are guarded by troops and martial law has been declared. The Government has moved to the fortress and is holding large forces in readiness for an emergency.
