HALS. RALEIGH
WRECKED OFF NEWFOUNDLAND COAST. A TOTAL LOSS. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and New Zealand Cable Assn). HALIFAX, August 9. A Cape Race wireless reports that the Jlntish cruiser Raleigh was totally wrecked on rocks in Belle Isle Strait. Four of the crew were saved. SIX LIVES LOST. OTTAWA, August 9. (Received August 10, 8.10 p.m.) Navy Department reports indicate that six members of the Raleigh’s crew were lost, the rest being saved, including Admiral Packenhnm. AN ADMIRALTY REPORT CRUISER BADLY AGROUND LONDON, August 9. ißecerved Auugst 1, 11.30 p.m.) The Admiralty announces that the ILtieigh is badly aground a quarter of a mile west of Point Amour, Labrador, and is now in a dangerous position. The crew landed and are being transported to Halifax. It is feared that four men lost their lives. The Raleigh is of the Birmingham class of cruisers. They were constructed in J9lB, and are of 9,750 tons. The main armament is seven 7.5-in. guns.
