FOOTBALL
SATURDAY’S GAMES. The results of last Saturday's matches leave the Galbraith Shield _ Competition in a more interesting p/xsitien than ever. The redoubtable Pirates were compelled to lower their colours to Invercargill who had previously been defeated by Star. During the past few days comment has been rife over the merits of the various teams and to-morrow’s matches are being eagerly looked forward to. The big match will be between Star and Marist on Rugby Park No. 1 at 3 p.m., and there are many of the Green supporters who contend that the present champions will have to acknowledge defeat. The Marist team is a much improved combination, particularly in the backs, so that as the same may be said of Star some first-class football should be witnessed. Waikiwi rneete Invercargill on the Park No. 2 at 2.15 p.m., and the suburban team are expected to extend the Blues. On last week’s form Blues would probably beat 90 per cent, of the senior teams in New ZealancL but it should be remembered that Waikiwi possesses a very promising forward pack. Two of the leading teams in the third grade Invercargill and Boys’ High Scholl play the curtain raiser on the No. 1 grounds at 1.30 'p.m. and a great struggle should be V^ tueßBC< i between these old rivals both going in for the open game and on past performftflcee should be very evenly matched, and a fast game should result.
