HELPING THE ORPHANS

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY. In everyone’s heart there is a sympathetic spot. In some it is a very large spot and near the surface, in others it may be small and not so easy to find, but it is there all the same. The question is how to find I the spot? AU of us have been children and all of us have a memory and one has only to think of their childhood days to remember what joUy times thy were. Everyone can thank their parents for those good times. It was generally mother who thought of the holidays and suggested picnics to the bush or to the seaside, at any rate it was mother who provided the lunch basket and thought of the hundred and one things to t make the picnic a success. The Fresby- . terian Church have established two Homes I in" Invercargill where 49 children era pro- ! vided with a home which is as near a home ias it is possible to be. The Homes have ' certain visiting days and anyone interested ! in the work can call and see how happy I the children are ' All this preamble is to give publicity to i the fact, that Messrs H. and J. Smith intend showing their ympathy in a practical manner by giving to the orphanages a donation 10 per cent on all cash purchases made during the week, starting from Monday next week, and it is to be hoped that the public will patronise the Progressive Stores liberally, and Messrs H. and J. Smith are not merely asking the public to come any buy but they intend offering inducements that will make the public come find buy. Both their shops are fully stocked and their huge stock valued at £70,000 is at the disposal of the public. Menfolk can help the children next, week us both shops have plenty of men’s goods and men will be offered inducements to buy ae well as women. If this offer of Messrs H. and J. Smiths 4 is taken up by the public the spirit in which it is made next week sho .Id be one big co-operative week. The public are asked to co-operate by buying ar.d the children in the Homes will co-operate by saying ‘Thank you,” and they ®ay it so nicely, too for Uey are well trained--?—(Advt).
