VENUS STREET FOOTPATHS

To the Editor. Sir, —Might I trespass oh your valuable space to voice a grievance. Last Council meeting, the residents on the west side of Venus street put in a petition for asphalt. They were informed: No funds available. Now it seems the residents on the east side (with a much better footpath) have requested the same, and we hear: The committee are to act. Now I would just like to know why this rotten state of affairs is allowed to exist? I have Jived in Georgetown all my jife, and for the last twelve years in Venus street, and it is in a disgraceful state at this end. I had occasion to attend a meeting at St. George school, and, it being a wet night, the water was up to my ankles all the way along the south part of Venus street. In fact, the first decent footpath I struck was when I reached South Invercargill. Ido think we have paid very dearly for the folly of the people, who voted for South Invercargill to amalgamate with Invercargill. As for our lovely, practical Town Council, I don’t think they know the meaning of fairness. I am, etc., JEAN ELIZABETH MACKAY. 83 Venus Street.
