WORK FOR THE YEAR.| The year’s work of the South Island Dairy Association, as revealed in its annual report and balance sheet, shows that the Association is still making steady progress. Both in cheese and butter increases are recorded on last year’s figures, while compared with the initial year of the Association, 1895, big strides have been made. The number of factories on the roll at the close of the year was 116. The profit and loss account disclosed a profit of £375 18s 7d on the year’s work, the turnover being £97,892 as against £90,541 cf last year. The importance of the Association can be gathered from the following figures;— Butter exported from Bluff, (1921-2) — 34,665 boxes. Cheese exported from Bluff, (192L2) — 126,978 crates. Cheese still in store—<3o,lo3 crates. Butter exported for 8. I. 1921-2 : 818,413 cwt. Butter exported for S.L 1920-21: 476,730 cwt. Cheese exported from S.L 1921-2: 1,365,479 cwt. Cheese exported from S.L 1920-1: 1,208,263 cwt. Cheese exported in 1895, the first year of the Association: 79.650 cwt. Butter exported in 1895: 66,283 cwt. The retiring directors are Messrs H. J. Middlston and J. S. Grieve, both of whom are eligible for re-election.
